Madness, Method, & Beer

In 1995, Sam Calagione looked at the American beer landscape and saw a desert. So he planted a garden — one rooted in the unorthodox. Dogfish Head was born from a simple belief: that beer should push boundaries, not reinforce them.

From our first brew in a converted storage unit to our current state-of-the-art facility on the Delaware coast, we've stayed true to our ethos — Ale for the Thoughtful Drinker. We use ingredients you've never heard of, techniques you wouldn't expect, and a sense of humor that never gets lost in the mash.

Today, Dogfish Head is a global name in craft beer — but we're still a small brewery at heart. Every batch carries the same restless curiosity that started it all. No shortcuts. No compromises. Just beer that dares to be different.

01 Unorthodox Ingredients Orange peel, honey, lavender, coffee, chocolate — if it belongs in beer, we're trying it.
02 Historical Inspiration Our Ancient Ales series recreates beers from 9,000-year-old Mesopotamian and Egyptian recipes.
03 Community First From Rehoboth Beach to the world, we brew for people who value craft, curiosity, and connection.
